Heads up nerds! Saturday night will be prime viewing for the first of three "Super moons" of this year.
Because of the moon's elliptical orbit around Earth, sometimes it is 50,000 kilometers closer(perigee) to us than at it's farthest point(apogee). When the perigee point is coincident with a full moon(two unrelated phenomena), we get treated to a nice large super moon. Take a minute or two from the idiot box this weekend and go out and enjoy it.
