“The American people will never knowingly adopt Socialism. But under the name of ‘liberalism’ they will adopt every fragment of the Socialist program, until one day America will be a Socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.”

We are surely not alone in the Universe

According to calculations recently performed at Cal Tech in Pasadena, there are likely 100 billion Earth-like planets hanging around just in the Milky Way galaxy. With an estimated 100 billion galaxies in the Universe, the number of Earth-like planets is a number so staggeringly large as to defy name, but for the nerds among you, that's 1.0x10^22. Staggering enough that to believe that we are alone in the Universe and exist as God's only life-form experiment is outrageous, preposterous, ridiculous!

I can't think of a greater waste of space except maybe that which Al Gore occupies.

Call me outrageous, preposterous, and ridiculous.

Isaac, you really think we are the only life-forms in the whole Universe? Then what's all the rest of it for?

I give up, Ed. Tell me.

I don't pretend to have the answers, but there are two points to be made.

1:if we are here randomly, solely due to evolution, then it would be statistically unlikely that there aren't millions of other civilizations that evolved as well.

2:if we are here by God's design, then why waste all that space for a single tiny, insignificant planet? And if we were designed, then we were designed to be curious and ingenious about ways to investigate our origins and purpose. Why would God put all his eggs in one basket, given the space in which to experiment?

If you don't have all the answers, Ed, then maybe, just maybe it was over the top to write, "...to believe that we are alone in the Universe and exist as God's only life-form experiment is outrageous, preposterous, ridiculous!" I'm just sayin'.

I was channeling Johnny Cochran for one thing, but my point remains that if we are the only life-forms in the universe, then what a colossal waste of space it all is. And I might add, what an abysmal failure this particular experiment has been. You think we Earth humans are the best there is in the universe? How sad that would be.

Several points, Ed.
1. This is not an experiment. This is not a dress rehearsal. It is a carefully planned operation with a specific and certain outcome. While it might not make sense now, we have been assured that it will eventually. I'm O.K. with that.

2. We are not the best in the universe. There are beings higher than we are, spirit beings. You and I can't see them but they are there. Select humans will eventually be elevated above the angels. One of the purposes of this life is to identify those qualified to take part in that elevation.

3. You can't say that space is a waste of space until and unless you know what went before and what is planned for later. Is it barren now as a result of some intergalactic battle between spirit beings? Is it there to tell us humans not to take ourselves too seriously? I don't know and, frankly, I don't see it as important. It all will become clear in good time.
