“The American people will never knowingly adopt Socialism. But under the name of ‘liberalism’ they will adopt every fragment of the Socialist program, until one day America will be a Socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.”

Democrats' solution to American economic suffering.....raise taxes of course

Is anybody surprised that a democrat's natural reaction to dwindling tax revenue is to raise taxes rather than cut spending?

New taxes will be hallmarks of Gov. David Paterson's first budget plan to be released in two days, according to interviews of people briefed on components.

The plan will come with a host of revenue raisers — increased taxes on hospitals and insurance policies, for instance — and at least one new assessment, a so-called obesity tax on non-diet soda to raise $404 million. The governor also is contemplating requiring new license plates to raise cash, reviving sales tax on clothing purchases, removing the tax cap on gasoline and threatening to require Indian retailers to collect taxes on sales to non-Indians by signing into law a bill passed earlier this year by the Legislature.

Unlike the victims of it's absurd, wasteful policies, government can never do with less income. The democrat mantra is, 'the less we have to spend, the more that must be taken away'. It never occurs to politicians to cut spending. When Americans have less income, we must cut our spending. Why not the government?

And the idea of a fat-tax on non-diet soda is ridiculous. Consumers should decide what succeeds in the marketplace, not meddling government busy-bodies.
