“The American people will never knowingly adopt Socialism. But under the name of ‘liberalism’ they will adopt every fragment of the Socialist program, until one day America will be a Socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.”

The dark side of Christmas.....and human nature

Merry Christmas honey. I hope you enjoy your brand new Trample-Me-Elmo doll. I literally had to kill a guy to get it....

A worker died after being trampled and a woman miscarried when hundreds of shoppers smashed through the doors of a Long Island Wal-Mart Friday morning, witnesses said.

The unidentified worker, employed as an overnight stock clerk, tried to hold back the unruly crowds just after the Valley Stream store opened at 5 a.m.

Witnesses said the surging throngs of shoppers knocked the man down. He fell and was stepped on. As he gasped for air, shoppers ran over and around him.

"He was bum-rushed by 200 people," said Jimmy Overby, 43, a co-worker. "They took the doors off the hinges. He was trampled and killed in front of me. They took me down too...I literally had to fight people off my back."

This sort of thing happens every year on the Friday after Thanksgiving. As soon as Wal-Mart pays millions to this poor dude's family(they deserve every penny), maybe other stores will reconsider letting people stampede like dumb animals through the doors to beat everybody to a stupid toy.

If you are one of those idiots who gets up at 3AM, camps out in the mall parking lot, and then rushes the doors of the mall to beat everbody to some deal, then you are of roughly the same intelligence as any herd animal. And it's jerks like you who contribute to this sort of thing every year. Next year, it might be you who gets trampled to death or miscarries your baby as people step on you, racing to grab the last ShamWow.

Idiots! I swear!

I heard about this last night and thought it was disgusting.
But I am one of the jerks who gets up at 3am and goes out to shop on Black Friday. I think a lot of the problems depend on the area. Most people I know do enjoy the bargains, but they just go for fun. Some people are way too serious and greedy about it - that's the problem.

The people in the area I normally shop are almost all friendly and pleasant on Black Friday. People actually help each other, apologize for pushing, and chat with strangers. Like my one sister said - she goes for the atmosphere.

On year I went to another area and had a completely different experience- rude, nasty, pushy people.
One of my sisters lives in Las Vegas and from what she tells me, I wouldn't go if I had to deal with that. I don't know why anyone would, but I don't think it's like that everywhere. I would like to think most people are civil, but obviously there are problems and something needs to be done.

Tracie, I didn't mean to impune everybody who shops on black Friday but, this stuff happens every year. I mean is this what Christmas is to Americans? No wonder the terrorists hate us.

I do know what you're saying. You're right about it being too much.
I was just saying it can be a pretty neat tradition when people don't get carried away.
And yes, it is sad that they do this for Christmas.
What do you (or your readers) do to make Christmas meaningful?
