“The American people will never knowingly adopt Socialism. But under the name of ‘liberalism’ they will adopt every fragment of the Socialist program, until one day America will be a Socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.”

A tale of two cultures

Regular reader David writes in with his take on the flooding in the Midwest....

Questions on the Flooding in Iowa:

The below is so very true.

-Where are all of the Hollywood celebrities holding telethons asking for
help in restoring Iowa and helping the folks affected by the floods?

-Where is all the media asking the tough questions about why the federal
government hasn't solved the problem? Asking where the FEMA trucks (and
trailers) are?

-Why isn't the Federal Government relocating Iowa people to free hotels
in Chicago?

-When will Spike Lee say that the Federal Government blew up the levees
that failed in Des Moines?

-Where are Sean Penn and the Dixie Chicks?

-Where are all the looters stealing high-end tennis shoes and big screen
television sets?

-When will we hear Governor Chet Culver say that he wants to rebuild a
'vanilla' Iowa, because that's the way God wants it?

-Where is the hysterical 24/7 media coverage complete with reports of
cannibalism?

-Where are the people declaring that George Bush hates white, rural
people?

-How come in 2 weeks, you will never hear about the Iowa flooding ever
again?

The self reliance shown by people of the mid-west stands so far apart
from the 'people' in New Orleans that were in the same situation.

Also, there was/is zero looting. I have pretty much given up hope for
the 'victims' of that culture. Welfare has reduced them to what they
are today.

Sad, very, very sad...

Good questions all. I'm sure most Americans are asking themselves the same thing. In asking these questions, David indelicately points out the differences in population behavior between those who are self reliant, independent, responsible citizens and those who are shiftless, dependent, criminal-minded, wards of the State, when it comes to dealing with disaster. In case you haven't made the connection, when true conservatives control government you get more of the mid-western culture and when liberals control government you get more New Orleans. Think before you vote.

Death by stupidity

You hate when this kind of thing happens to a young person(when it's an adult, it's easier to laugh at) but of all the dumb ways to get your head cut off....

The popular "Batman the Ride" rollercoaster at Six Flags Over Georgia remained closed Sunday while authorities continued investigating the death of a teenager who jumped over two fences and was struck by the ride.

According to police and the amusement park, Asia Leeshawn Ferguson-17, of Springfield, S.C. and a friend climbed over two 6-foot fences -- a wrought-iron style park perimeter fence and a second chainlink fence around the Batman ride -- as a shortcut to get back into the park after lunch. Signs about 40 to 50 feet apart on the outer fence warn that it is a "restricted area" for "authorized personnel only."

According to park officials, a sign on a locked gate at the chain link fence also reads "Danger zone" and "Do not enter."

Ferguson was decapitated when the ride struck him, police said.

What made this kid think it was OK to sneak back into the park against the rules? I went to that park dozens of times as a teen and never, never considered sneaking back into the park, or doing anything else against the park rules for that matter.

Next is the legal phase of this case in which smarmy plaintiffs lawyers vie for the opportunity to strike it rich by suing Six Flags on behalf of the bereaved family. Never mind that the dumb kid in effect, committed suicide. The lawyers know that if you can get an hysterical mother of a decapitated teen in front of twelve hand-picked morons, you can get a judgement for millions, regardless of the faultlessness of the defendant. What a great country we live in, where the legal system allows you to plunder the wealth of others for the bargain basement cost of a coffee-burned crotch, a gator bite, or a self-executed headless teenager.

Sorry to be so cynical, but you know this is what's coming.

Don't be a douche

Men 35 and under, who wear golf shirts, shorts and dress shoes, and drive late model STS's risk being called douchebags....

So I'm at Home Depot this morning buying railroad ties for a back-yard project. I swing my truck around to the lumber loading area for access to the tie stack only to find a new looking Cadillac STS parked directly in front of the ties. It's not a parking place, it's for loading lumber but, I assume it's an old man who probably needs help loading something in his trunk so it's no big deal. I maneuver my truck as close as I can while leaving enough room to load the ties without damaging his car. I get 4 of them loaded(each tie weighs 200lbs so it's no small task to lift and place them in the bed of a truck by myself) when out walks the owner of the Caddy carrying a small bag which looked like it might contain a can of bug spray....he looks almost exactly like the guy in this picture only his Polo shirt-tail was out, no man-bag, he was probably 35, and his shoes were honest to goodness penny loafers, not moccasins. I'm standing there filthy, sweaty, covered in creosote residue and he looks at me, then at his car and realized the trouble he's caused me.

"Looks like hard work", he remarks. I just stared at him like....no kidding!
"I'd help you load those but I'm headed to lunch and I'd get dirty", he claims while observing my soiled shirt.
"No sweat, man, I got this", was all I could think of to say.

The guy clearly knew what he had done because he acted almost apologetic. And that would have been OK if I thought he learned something. It would have been worth the inconvenience to rid the world of one more douchebag but, I'm kidding myself. I imagine this douche drove his dumb but hot trophy wife to the country club with their two preppy Nordic children and got a good laugh at that dirty guy at Home Depot who couldn't get to the railroad ties, because he didn't want his black STS to get hot in the sun.

I swear these relatively young men who drive Mercedes Benz or Cadillacs think that because they spent a fortune on a trophy car, they are somehow privileged, and can park anywhere they like. You see them blocking the front door of supermarkets. You see them hogging two spaces in a crowded parking deck. In essence, they don't care if they park illegally or inconvenience us little, poor people. They figure they've earned the right to park where ever they feel like it, by spending a lot on their car.

Unless you are retired and/or over 65, don't drive a Cadillac...and under no circumstances act like a douchebag with it.

UGA-VI...R.I.P.

I got some sad news last night.....

The University of Georgia's beloved and Churchillian English bulldog mascot Uga VI died peacefully Friday night in Savannah of congestive heart failure after serving nine seasons on the sidelines as the Bulldogs' winningest mascot.

Uga VI, owned by Savannah attorney Frank W. "Sonny" Seiler, was the heaviest in the line of six solid-white English bulldogs to serve as UGA's mascot since Uga I became a Georgia football game fixture in 1956.

"He was a good one," Seiler said in a prepared statement. "What can I say? He had a marvelous record. He was a very strong and healthy dog. He was the biggest of all the dogs, and he had the biggest heart. It just played out."

Damon Evans, UGA athletics director, bestowed the highest praise on the beast that he could Saturday, in a statement:

"Uga VI was a damn good mascot and a damn good dog," said Evans.

With the passing of one Uga there's always speculation regarding which bulldog will be heir to the throne, which comes with a few perks, including an air-conditioned doghouse, travel by Delta Airlines to away games, celebrityhood (Uga V was on the cover of Sports Illustrated in 1997 as the nation's best mascot) and a fanbase that's paparazzi-like in its obsession.

"People pet him so much his head gets sore," Seiler once said of his line of Ugas. "He's like a politician who shakes too many hands."

Seiler said Saturday that the "lineage is secure" and a successor will be announced by the Seilers and the UGA athletic association later.

Uga VI will be buried in a marble vault in the Southwest corner of Sanford Stadium with his ancestors in private ceremonies expected to be held early next week.

File under----Dumb-ass!

Everybody wants their slice of somebody elses' pie.....

A school caretaker has successfully sued Hampshire County Council after he was injured falling off a stepladder.
Anthony Gower-Smith, 73, fell off the 6ft (180cm) stepladder at Awbridge Primary School in Romsey in 2004.
In court, he claimed his employer had not shown him how to use the ladder. The council denied negligence.
But on Friday, Mr Gower-Smith, from North Baddesley, won his case on the basis the council was 75% to blame. His compensation will now be assessed.
Mr Gower-Smith, who had made a claim for £50,000, suffered a fractured skull, fractured cheek bone and kidney injuries in the fall, leading to treatment in intensive care.

This is in the UK but, I'm surprised it didn't happen here in the US. These days, people expect to live a no-fault life, having to bear absolutely no responsibility for their own lives or safety. And if something bad happens and they hurt themselves solely due to their own abject stupidity and carelessness, then somebody's going to reward them for their pain with fabulous cash and prizes. And there's no shortage of smarmy lawyers lurking around to help them extort riches from the deepest pockets in the general area, regardless of actual liability.

Irony, thy name is OJ

I found this to be hilarious....

LAS VEGAS (AP) - O.J. Simpson says an ambitious Nevada prosecutor is pressing a kidnapping and armed robbery case against him that he says even the alleged victims don't want to pursue.
"If I was anybody else, I wouldn't be going to court," Simpson told a reporter for Fargo, N.D., radio station KFGO who interviewed him late Tuesday at a Fargo cigar bar. Simpson was vacationing in eastern North Dakota and northwestern Minnesota.

That's right Juice, if you were anybody else, you'd already be in jail serving consecutive 20-life's for double murder.

Retard narrowly eludes Darwin....details at 11

Floridians get attacked or killed by gators it seems on a regular basis. If you think they would be smarter than this by now.....you'd be wrong.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- A Florida teen whose arm was ripped from his body by an 11-foot alligator is blaming the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission for not properly controlling the alligator population.

"It's a problem that needs to be dealt with," victim Kasey Edwards said. "The alligators -- the population needs to be brought down."

Edwards said he knew the canal was infested with alligators before taking a 2 a.m. swim at Nubbin Slough, a canal near Lake Okeechobee on Sunday. "They said they pulled out over a dozen 12-foot alligators and they spotted 150 in that area," Edwards said.

Edwards is clearly a shining product of Florida's stellar government school system. Instinctively blaming others for his own stupidity makes him an perfect, potential, core-democrat voter.

Do not feed the polar bears!

Report: North Pole May Be Ice-Free This Summer------Quick, everybody panic!!!!

It seems unimaginable, but for the first time in recorded history the North Pole may be free of ice this summer, according to a published report Friday.

If climate scientists' predictions hold true, the "unique" prospect of sailing in open waters at the North Pole, before the region cools in September, may become a shocking reality.

This is the best news we've heard about global warming. Think of the tourist potential...I'd stay at the Arctic Hilton Resort and Spa. And with all the tourists running around, there will be plenty of food for the polar bears since they are one of only a few species to actively hunt, kill, and eat humans. Then think of the commerce lanes that will be open. The famed Northwest Passage will be available for a few months to cargo ships. And finally, with no ice to get in the way, drilling for oil will be much cheaper and easier. See, this global warming stuff is a win win for everybody...even the polar bears.

Looks like an ideal place for shipping, fishing, or drilling......yaaaaaaaay global warming!

We are citizens, not subjects

For the first time ever, the Supreme Court ruled on a case involving the restriction of privately owned handguns. It turned out exactly as I predicted in a 5-4 ruling with liberals Ginsberg, Souter, Breyer, and Stevens dissenting. My favorite Justice Scalia, wrote for the majority. Here's part of the article over on Breitbart.com....

The basic issue for the justices was whether the amendment protects an individual's right to own guns no matter what, or whether that right is somehow tied to service in a state militia.

Writing for the majority, Justice Antonin Scalia said that an individual right to bear arms is supported by "the historical narrative" both before and after the Second Amendment was adopted.

The Constitution does not permit "the absolute prohibition of handguns held and used for self-defense in the home," Scalia said. The court also struck down Washington's requirement that firearms be equipped with trigger locks or kept disassembled, but left intact the licensing of guns.

Scalia noted that the handgun is Americans' preferred weapon of self-defense in part because "it can be pointed at a burglar with one hand while the other hand dials the police."

Excellent ruling today! This ought to shut up, once and for all, the harping by anti-gun nuts and liberals who want an unarmed society in which only the criminals and the government have guns.

UPDATE: From reading the coverage of this slim victory of constitutionalists like me, I've gathered these points: 1. That this victory hinged on how Justice Kennedy felt when he got up this morning is scary. 2. That 4 Justices ruled against the second amendment is even scarier. 3. If Gore or Kerry were President, it would be all but impossible to purchase or own a firearm in America. 4. When Obama becomes President and the liberals control the Senate Judiciary Committee, Ginsberg and maybe Kennedy will almost certainly retire. Ginsberg will be replace by another raving mad liberal, but Kennedy, the lone centrist, will also be replace by a raving mad liberal. Then the balance of the court will be 5 liberals to 4 conservatives. Then you'd better hide your guns.

Shut-up and act!

Actress Daryl Hannah, known for her roles in Splash, Wallstreet, Kill Bill, and many other good movies, has recently leapt off the eco-cliff with other deranged Hollywood nit-wits like Ed Begley and Leo DiCaprio. Like all the rest, she believes the global warming farce and puts her beliefs into action by living her life like it's the 17th century.

She was interviewed by the crew on Fox&Freinds this morning so I thought I'd check out her blog. It's all about eco this and eco that, the usual crap about saving Gaia from the imaginary menace of global warming through conservation. Here's a snipit from the part about fresh water conservation:

The average American uses about 100 gallons of water a day. The French and Germans use about 60 gallons a day per capita, and people in some tribal communities use fewer than 10.

I'm sure it was unintentional but, that stat sets the French up for some rather obvious bathing jokes. Feel free to write your own.

I try not to waste water but, come on. The reason we live in the wealthiest nation on Earth is because we have the technology that provides us with plentiful amounts of fresh water. If I wanted to get by on 10 gallons a day, I'd move to Borneo or some other God-forsaken, jungle crap-hole.

Here's Daryl, back when we liked her...before the dark days of eco-nuttery.

It's Ann Coulter Thursday!

This week Ann sagely points out the lame attempt by democrats to get Americans to believe that they care about high gas prices. As we all know, there is no gas price above which democrats will say, "OK, that's too high". The higher the price of gas, the closer we move toward the 17th century, pedaling and walking everywhere.....all except for democrats who'll keep flying private jets everywhere to get the green word out. The other silver lining for democrats from high gas prices is it makes the US less competitive and weak...liberals love when America is weak like their Eurotrash friends. Go to Ann's site and read it.

Citizens or subjects

A big decision comes down from the Supremes tomorrow regarding gun control...

The U.S. Supreme Court today did not release its long-awaited ruling on whether the District's handgun ban violates the Second Amendment. That means the potentially landmark decision will almost certainly come tomorrow morning when the court is planning to issue the last of its rulings for the term. The case, District of Columbia v. Heller, which was argued nearly four months ago, could settle the decades-old debate over whether the Second Amendment grants individuals the right to own firearms.

I predict Alito, Roberts, Scalia, and Thomas will overturn the ban, with Kennedy siding with the majority. Breyer, Ginsberg, Stevens, and Souter will predictably uphold the ban. As liberals, they loathe the idea of individuals being able to defend themselves against the tyranny of the State or from other individuals.

I read this comment on another blog today and it fit so perfectly my gun-ownership ideas, I decided to repeat it....

"Citizens are armed, subjects are not. We shall remain armed"

Let's hope that's how it turns out.

Indentured servitude

Would somebody please show me in the Constitution where it says Congress can force me to pay for the stupid decisions of others?

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Senate was expected to approve as soon as Wednesday the biggest government program yet to tackle a deep housing market slump feared to be dragging the economy into recession.

The legislation would create a $300 billion fund to help up to 400,000 troubled homeowners refinance costly, exotic mortgages into more affordable, government-backed loans. It easily cleared a Senate test vote by an 83-9 vote on Tuesday.

I get that families are losing their homes. I get that they feel tricked by the government, finance companies, and banks. I get that it's painful and humiliating to go through a foreclosure. I get that having to start over is an awful position to be in.

I get all that. But what they have to understand is that.....I DON'T CARE!

No Americans should be obligated to pony up their tax dollars to bail out other Americans who made poor choices and uninformed financial decisions. Home-ownership isn't a birth-right any more than affordable health-care or a living wage is a birth-right. If I make a bad financial decision and I lose my butt, I don't go next door to my neighbors and stick my hand out for money to bail me out. But that's exactly what this Senate bill does. It compels wise Americans who live within their means to cough up some of their hard-earned money to compensate stupid Americans for their bad decisions.

I swear, at some point there needs to be a tax-payer revolt of some kind. I'd sure get behind it.

The un-Fairness Doctrine revived

As you know by now, Nancy Pelosi is a vile, loathsome wretch! So far her tentacles can reach only so far before conservatives in Congress step on them, after which she shrieks and yanks them back. This applies to the reprehensible "Fairness Doctrine" which she supports. Basically it states that the public airwaves(radio) belong to the public, and if a political opinion is expressed, then the opposing view may demand equal time to rebutt that opinion.

The reason liberals like the Fairness Doctrine is that it would in effect silence conservative talk radio. They know that instead of broadcasting liberal dogma that nobody listens to in response to Rush or Hannity or Boortz, radio stations would just change their format to Latin Salsa music and get out of the talk business. You see, liberals cannot compete in the fair arena of ideas. Nobody will listen to it and no advertizers will support the shows. This is why Air America went bankrupt almost before it went on the air.

But the democrats are expected to increase their majorities in both Houses of Congress such that a Fairness Doctrine bill would sail through. If the Obamessiah gets elected savior of America, he'll surely sign it into law, and you can forget listening to Rush Limbaugh or any other conservatives on AM radio.

Creeping incrementalism

I borrowed this video from Moonbattery. It's a Heinz mayonnaise commercial for broadcast in the UK that was introduced and then quickly yanked due to public outcries. Warning: you may never eat potato salad again after watching this.....

It figures that the company whose billions support dingbat Theresa Heinz-Kerry and her gigilo, dingleberry husband John Kerry produced it. Look, I don't have a problem with homosexuals having relationships, even raising kids if it's a healthy environment otherwise. It's none of my business. And that's precisely the problem I have with this commercial. It's a subversive attempt to mainstream a lifestyle which most people find objectionable. The idea is to force the unenlightened class to not just tolerate, but embrace as normal the homosexual lifestyle, whether we choose to or not, by cramming it down our throats little by little in movies, TV, print ads, childrens' text books, and now mayonnaise commercials.

Heinz may have pulled the ad for now, but you can bet they'll test market it, or one like it, here in the US at some point.

The subtle racism of modern environmentalists

Over at BelchSpeak Pat ran a story about how the stupid environmentalists pretend to be helping third-world minorities, but in actuality, are perpetuating their misery and despair by preventing them from enjoying the fruits of living in the post-industrial, space age like the rest of us. It's an excellent post and right on the money. I borrowed a picture from it and included my comment. Seriously, go check it out and add BelchSpeak to your blogroll or favorites while you're at it.

"That smug, superior, white environmentalist in the picture insists that those poor blacks remain mired in their God-forsaken, third-world squalor, but when it gets dark, he'll be on his air-conditioned, expensively-fueled, well-lit plane ride back to his mom and step-dad's house in Berkeley where he'll tell his drug-addled, hippie friends how quaint the "coloreds" are peddling their asses off so the kids can do their homework."

TRR Poll Question

I'm sure everybody's heard by now the clip of racist boob Don Imus making yet another inappropriate comment regarding an athlete's color by means of explaining his bad behavior. If not, here it is....

Now, I'm sure you're shaking your head and muttering, "What an idiot! You can't say stuff like that!" And you'd be right, Imus is an idiot for saying that on the air. Here are some statistics about crime and the NFL and the general population....

Of the 308 incidents(arrests of NFL players), unofficially only 29 were involving whites, including three with kicker Sebastian Janikowski. That means about 90 percent of the incidents involved black players, who make up about 70 percent of the league.

Blacks compose about 13 percent of the U.S. population but comprise 30 percent of those arrested and more than 40 percent of those in prison, according to recent studies.

It is also a fact that NFL players get arrested for DUI at a rate that is half that of males aged 22-34 in the general population

So now, given those statistics, is Imus guilty of racism or just politically incorrect, horrible judgement? In other words, when you heard the sports guy say that Jones had been arrested 6 times in the last 3 years or so, did you have the same thought as Imus, only he stupidly spoke it? And if you did think it, does that make you a racist, or based on the statistics, was it a reasonable assumption to make that Jones is black?

Or is our perception of race/crime issues in pro sports formed by the media's coverage of it? Because as it turns out, NFL players are more well behaved than their non-NFL peers....we just see the NFL players on the news when they get busted.

Finally, is the problem with African-American NFL players and the law one specifically of race, or is it that many of these players grow up in the lawless, crime-ridden inner cities and suddenly find themselves with at lot of money, freedom, and being worshipped by fans everywhere they go. Their upbringing doesn't go away. I don't present that as an excuse for bad behavior, there is none, but as an explanation of it. Which brings us to our TRR poll question:

Was Imus' comment racist, or did he just speak what everybody else was thinking anyway?
Yes it was racist, and if you were thinking it, you're a racist too
No, he knows the statistics and the stats made his assumption reasonable
Who cares? Why is Pacman Jones in the NFL and not in jail like I would be after 6 arrests?

Ed's encounter with nature

So I was in my back yard contaminating the environment with Round-Up this weekend when I bent over to pick up a stick that had evidently fallen out of a tree. As I reached down, my eyes were looking around the yard for more weeds to kill, even as my brain was registering that the "stick" had a regular pattern of tan/brown markings and it's shape was far too sinusoidal to be a stick. My fingers were literally inches from grabbing the fattest part of the "stick" when it hit me that it was a snake. My only thought was to check for rattles and wait for the inevitable bite on my bare leg that I knew was coming. Then I quite involuntarily high-stepped across the yard to safety.

From a distance I decided it was not a rattle-snake, cotton-mouth, or one of the other 2-3 pit vipers here in Alabama so I relaxed a bit. The stupid snake just laid there flicking his tongue, so being a guy, I had to mess with it a little. I spent a few minutes poking it with an actual stick but when it coiled up and looked at me, I figured the fun was over. The native Alabama snake whose markings most closely resemble my friend's markings is the Northern Pine Snake, like the one in the picture.

It slithered away into my neighbor's yard and under her deck. I'm thinking I probably should have told her.

Hey baby, are your pants made of mirrors...

Here's a new twist on an old cliche'....

A further education college is having to protect builders from wolf-whistling girls, in a reversal of traditional gender stereotypes.

Officials at West Kent College in Tonbridge, Kent, sent an email to all pupils warning that the behaviour was "totally unacceptable", and saying any students caught harassing contractors would face disciplinary action.

The email read: "It has come to the attention of the college that some female students have been making comments to, or whistling at, the builders both whilst on site and as they walk around the campus.

"Although we are sure no offence is meant, this constitutes harassment and is wholly unacceptable.

"We have asked the contractors' representative to pass on all instances of harassment to the college and we will take appropriate action which may include disciplinary action."

Meanwhile new laws could see wolf-whistling builders placed on the sex offenders register. The Sexual Offences (Scotland) Bill will create a new offence of "communicating indecently", punishable by up to 10 years in jail.

The news isn't that girls can be accused of sexual harassment, though no self-respecting construction worker would mind being leered and whistled at by hottie coeds, it's that even something as time-tested and non-threatening as wolf-whistling can get you on the "sexual offender" list. Seriously people, we're seeing an assault on free speech like never before.

So all you gals out there, when you're out at lunch today, go ahead and whistle at that burly jackhammer operator you've had your eye on. Then let us know how it went over.

Finally, some sanity in Washington

It's about time Congress revisited this. I'd hate to think it would take the Supreme Court to figure this out.....

WASHINGTON – Members of Congress are beginning to have second thoughts about the ban on incandescent light bulbs effective in 2014 as a result of an energy bill signed into law earlier this year.

Rep. Ted Poe, R-Texas, says his objection is very basic – the Constitution doesn't authorize Congress to do anything remotely like banning a product that has been used safely and efficiently for more than 100 years in favor of Chinese-imported compact fluorescent light bulbs that pose considerable health and safety risks.

From the floor of the House, Poe addressed the dangers of the CFL bulbs, explaining the extensive cleanup required by the Environmental Protection Agency for simply breaking a bulb. When a bulb, which contains mercury, is broken, according to the EPA, the room must be evacuated for 15 minutes and aired out with windows, but not before all glass is removed, placed in a sealed glass jar and disposed of outside. Any remaining glass must be picked up with tape. In addition, central heating or air conditioning units must be turned off.

Typically, legislators in Washington ferret out ways to skirt the Constitution on a daily basis. It's refreshing to hear one of them actually invoking the Constitution as a basis upon which to overturn idiotic legislation. And hopefully this means that my wife and I can stop hoarding incandescent bulbs.

Environmentalists...the new speech police

Everybody's piling on "big oil" now....

James Hansen, one of the world's leading climate scientists, will today call for the chief executives of large fossil fuel companies to be put on trial for high crimes against humanity and nature, accusing them of actively spreading doubt about global warming in the same way that tobacco companies blurred the links between smoking and cancer.

Thought and speech crimes are the first big step toward socialism, and the environmentalists, most of which are hippie, communists retreads, keep promoting the idea that speech against the global warming hoax should be criminalized.

This dolt Hansen is Al Gore's personal science advisor and stooge. Thankfully, his hysterical cries about the global warming farce have gone largely unheeded, as Americans are more concerned about their immediate household finances than about some imaginary menace called "climate change". But if the Obamessiah gets elected, we might very well see speech codes about global warming enacted, you know, for the "public good".

Dumb criminal of the week

You don't tug on Superman's cape. You don't spit in the wind. You don't pull the mask off the ol' Lone Ranger. And you don't shoot the policemen with their own TASERs.

Two Birmingham North Precinct police officers were shot with one of their own stun guns Thursday when a suspect they were trying to arrest got control of the Taser and then tried to take a pistol from one of the officers.

The second officer, still in control of his weapon, pulled his gun and shot the man.

This is almost like suicide by cop.....this guy is lucky it didn't turn out to be.

J.Mac and Obama....two peas in a pod

As if on cue from David's essay yesterday, McCain has been having late-night meetings with Hispanic leaders....

CHICAGO (AP) - Republican presidential John McCain assured Hispanic leaders he would push through Congress legislation to overhaul federal immigration laws if elected, several people who attended a private meeting with the candidate said Thursday.

Democrats questioned why the Arizona senator held the meeting late Wednesday night in Chicago. But supporters who were in the room denied that McCain held the closed-door session out of fear of offending conservatives, many of whom want him to take a harder line on immigration.

Both McCain and Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama support giving legal status to millions of illegal immigrants, but neither has made the issue a centerpiece of the campaign. At one time, McCain's campaign suffered because of his stance on the issue.

As far as illegal immigration goes, both of the presidential candidates are equal unmitigated disasters. Neither has any, any plans to enforce the existing immigration, labor, or deportation laws, and both want to fast-track tens of millions of unassimilated, dependent Mexicans on the path toward citizenship. And what do 20million low income, hand-out mentality, disregard for the rule of law citizens spell? 20million new democrats, that's what.

Here's Johnny Mac glad-handing Hispanic voters who he's trying to seduce into voting for him by promising to grant them unfettered access to Americas tax coffers by making them legal citizens. Good grief!

Guest essayist

Long time readers of TRR will recognize the handle "David" from the comments threads. He's a talented writer, a reasoned opinion former, and a good friend. His personal saddle-burr is illegal immigration and the disastrous conseqences it'll have on the long-term cultural and economic health of our country. Here's a short essay he wrote recently regarding illegal immigration. Take a minute to read through it and let him know what you think. (This is actually a silhouette picture of David at his desk working.)

Lex Parsimoniae1

I've spent a fair amount of time the past two years thinking about our national indifference to the illegal alien invasion. Up until now I have been bitterly disgusted about our unwillingness to even attempt to retain our national sovereignty and culture by requiring those wishing to enter our country, ostensibly seeking a better life, to follow the cumbersome immigration process and assimilate into our culture to become Americans. It all seems so easy to me; secure the borders,
set (or revise) immigration standards: Who do we want as potential citizens? What skills? And for how long? Really, can't we just set the terms and enforce the existing laws?

But with all the debate and turmoil over this issue no one seemed willing to just do this. Instead there is endless debate about a border fence, temporary National Guard augmentation of the Border Patrol via Operation JUMP START, and the flood of illegals continues transforming this nation forever. No one seems to care and yet our country is silently changing. Is this really what we want?

We'll today while I was trying to take a pre-Father's Day celebratory nap, I had an epiphany (or an epiphery as Steve Carell-as-Michael Scott would say). As I laid awake trying to sleep I developed a hypothesis and hastily scratched out some notes on a Publix shopping list(?) I had lying on my bedside table.

My hypothesis:

America has a secret plan. A plan developed sub rosa by a few in a secluded, quiet room. The plan is to save America by allowing a flood of young, illegal aliens to enter the United States! Save America? How could a huge influx of unskilled, poorly educated, young, Spanish-speaking aliens save America? And from what?

Allow me to explain America's secret Plan.

America is dying. The U.S. Birthrate is below replacement. This is problematic for several reasons. First the obvious, with all others things held constant (if that were possible), we are not replacing ourselves with young American humans. So the natural course of events is extinction. Second, our population is aging. More and more the elderly are leaving the workforce and becoming dependent on social programs such as Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. These social programs are funded by taxes obtained from a declining population of young workers in the workforce. This too is unsustainable. America is not alone in the global hospice. Europe, Japan, and Russia are fellow patients. All are failing to replace themselves, all are dying.

How do we prevent or at least postpone death? Europe is importing Muslims as their last, best hope to reinvigorate their workforce. Japan has refused to adopt this “immigration” policy. It has closed itself off and is shutting down. Russia is unwittingly awaiting an invasion of approximately 70 million unmarried men from China to provide the seeds of antidote to their demise. None of these “choices” is optimal for the perpetuation of these nations or their cultures. On the contrary, their cultures will be erased and their countries forever changed, rendered unrecognizable.

This brings me to America. We are “importing” our future workers from Mexico (primarily) in hopes of staving off the death of this nation. These young, (re)productive workers are eager to seek a better life in this country, the life of things available to a middle class of which they have only dreamed. Having little or no middle class in Mexico they bring with them the pre-WWII life model of hard labor and large families. This give the U.S. workers to do the jobs out middle class has grown out of while providing an influx of new young workers with a propensity to reproduce at numbers exceeding anything we are willing or able to achieve. Now!

Even if we were to offer post WWII style tax credits for bearing offspring and if Americans were willing and able to take advantage of them, it would take 2-3 decades to significantly increase our population. However allowing people to freely flow into our country addresses the problem now.

There appears to be a national indifference to the illegal alien invasion. The citizenry continues to allow the elected officials to do nothing to stop the invasion. The politicians see (maybe) an opportunity to garner future votes for their party. And somewhere in secluded room there is a small group of strategic thinkers setting in motion events to preserve the United States of America by giving the country a life-saving injection of reproductive youth and a future tax base.

Is lex parsimoniae applicable here and if so which scenario is most likely? Are the politicians looking for votes or is there a group of wise, tribal elders sitting around crafting a plan to preserve the United States? In my opinion both scenarios are sickening and an affront to anyone who considers themselves a patriot. I would be surprised if someone, anyone, was thinking long-term for this country much less setting a covert course to save this country but I suppose this could be our next Manhattan Project. Our best and brightest planning the ultimate weapon to save America from all foreign threats. If this is our next Manhattan Project maybe the reason it isn't being discussed is not because it is dangerous (nuclear weapons) or likely to be leaked to other nations (China, Russia) giving them the advantage but because while the plan “saves” America, the endstate is unimaginably terrifying.

p.s. This just in:
GOP presidential candidate John McCain is inviting his Democratic rival, Barack Obama, to participate in a joint town hall
meeting at an open-borders advocacy group’s upcoming meeting in California.
“There is a meeting in California of La Raza,” McCain told reporters at an Arlington press conference Monday. “Both of us
have accepted invitations. I say that we have a town hall meeting together in front of La Raza. I think that the people will be far more informed and in some ways, entertained if we had that format.”...

La Raza will be holding their annual meeting in San Diego July
12-15. Both McCain and Obama are scheduled to address the more
than 20,000 expected attendees. 2

Folks, my blood just reached 212°F and a wave of nausea has settled upon me...again. Someone please explain to me how I am wrong and this is right. Please?

1 Lex Parsimoniae – a Latin term for the Laws of Parsimony. A fancy reference to the the theory of Occam's Razor
which, more or less, suggests the simplest answer is usually the correct one.

Cue the banjos

I just got the pictures from a trip down the Ocoee River in Tennessee. I think this was just before I fell out of the boat. Our guide had us paddle so that we did continuous 360's down about 50 meters of class 4 rapids. I got off balance and swimming I went. The guy across the boat laughed at the face I made the second I realized my center of gravity was outside the boat(he laughed instead of grabbing my hand). Of course that's because I had laughed at him 10 minutes before when he fell in. See if you can find me.

Just rewards

It's probably wrong of me to find this kind of story amusing.....but I do.....

DALLAS (AP) — Police in a Dallas suburb say a man trying to rob a house accidentally shot himself after kicking down the door and died in the driveway. Grand Prairie police say the body of 19-year-old Cameron Sands was found outside the house early Tuesday.

Police Lt. John Brimmer says the evidence indicates Sands shot himself while trying to pull the gun from his waistband. He then dropped the gun and ran until he collapsed.

Sands was wounded in the stomach. The medical examiner's office has ruled his death accidental.

Gut shot is supposed to be one of the most painful ways to die.....if that's the case, then is sucks to be Cameron Sands right about now.

I don't know who these guys are but, when I imagine the above scene playing out, Cameron Sands looks about like this.

Democrats......craven lunatics!

In the United States of America, when an elected official comments that the government should seize private companies in order to control the means of production, it might be time to look for somewhere else to live.....

Rep. Maurice Hinchey (D-NY), member of the House Appropriations Committee and one of the most-ardent opponents of off-shore drilling had this to say....

"We (the government) should own the refineries. Then we can control how much gets out into the market."

Where in the Constitution is the government granted the right to take over a private industry? The government has regulated the airlines from time to time and regulated the communications industries from time to time but never, that I know of, has it seized ownership of otherwise private companies. How stupid are these democrats that they haven't learned anything from Venezuela's example. Hugo Chavez nationalized the oil refineries there, immediately plunging his country into poverty, food shortages, and general misery. Of course that's the kind of nation soulless democrats fantasize about for Americans Democrats don't see the gas-price issue as a crisis, they see it as an opportunity....an opportunity to seize more power than they've ever enjoyed in US history. The more miserable our lives, the more we'll depend on assholes like Henchey for everything.....and that's exactly how they want it.

This is the object of Democrat's lust. They want to control the life-blood of the US economy and the trillions in wealth it produces.

It's Ann Coulter Thursday!

This week Ann ridicules Justice Anthony Kennedy for his anchoring the 5-4 decision of the Court this week which grants US civilian legal rights to terrorists currently relaxing at Club Gitmo Tropical Spa and Resort. To say the Court overstepped it's jurisdiction is like saying the Mississippi River right now is a tad outside it's boundaries. Apparently Justice Kennedy thinks that nowhere on Earth is beyond his sphere of influence, including horning in on the powers granted by the Constitution to the Executive Branch. Go here and read her scathing article.

TRR Poll Question

The Manson "family", of which Susan Atkins was one, committed one of the most horrific group murders in US history. Since their conviction, we've assumed they'll all die in prison. So other than the odd E-True Hollywood Story show, we've pretty much forgotten about them...as it should be....until this.....

LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- Former Manson family member Susan Atkins has requested a "compassionate release" from prison because she has less than six months to live, a California prisons spokeswoman said Friday.

Atkins, 60, was convicted in the 1969 slayings of actress Sharon Tate and four others. She had been incarcerated at the California Institution for Women in Corona, California.

Atkins' husband and attorney, James Whitehouse, was quoted as saying she has been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer, according to a blog called Manson Family Today. She also has had a leg amputated, the Los Angeles Times reported Friday, citing sources close to the case.

According to historical accounts of the murders, Atkins stabbed Tate, who was 8½ months pregnant, and scawled the word "pig" in blood on the door of the home the actress shared with director Roman Polanski.

I can see the desire on the part of her family to have her with them for the last months of her life, and certainly she's no threat to repeat her crimes or any other. I would usually be OK with these sort of end-of-life pleas for release but, what about the Tate family? Really, they're the only ones who count here. Which brings us to our poll question...

Should Susan Atkins be released from prison and allowed to go home to die?
Yes, she's no threat, she was brainwashed by Manson, and we are a compassionate society
No, she should rot in hell for what she did to Sharon Tate, period!
I'm too young to remember these things. Poke fun of kooky moonbats some more.

Katrina v2.0

As midwestern states continue to get rain, and the Mississippi continues to swell, further and further south, levees are getting breeched and towns are getting flooded. Guess where all this culminates? That's right, New Orleans.

GULFPORT, Ill. — Floodwaters breached two levees in western Illinois on Wednesday and threatened more Mississippi River towns in Missouri after inundating much of Iowa for the past week.

Because of the legendary corruption and incompetence in Louisiana, the levees were never properly repaired and/or rebuilt after Katrina. When the Mississippi floods the Ninth Ward again, who do you think will be again on their rooves waiting for the government to rescue them? Where do you think the school buses will be this time around? Who do you think Mayor Ray Nagin will blame for this disaster too? Toward whom do you think the media will project more sympathy, the white flood victims in Iowa, Illinois, and Missouri, or the minorities in New Orleans?

I hope it doesn't happen and it might not but, you know the answers to every one of those questions if it does.

Drill! Drill! Drill!

Promising to reverse a presidential order by Bush '41 that banned offshore drilling, John McCain says he would allow individual states to decide whether they wanted to drill off their shores or not.
In a new national poll, 67% support drilling while 18% do not. As gas prices soar, those numbers are certainly expected to go up and down respectively.

It's about time an American politician recognized the concept of states' rights. The eco-nuts in California might elect not to drill, but the voters in Oregon, Mississippi, Louisiana, or Texas might decide to explore their waters. The Florida voters, always conscious of tourists, might stupidly decide not to drill for fearing the sight of oil rig lights on the horizon at night.

When we vacation at Gulf Shores, Alabama every summer, I like to see the lights of oil rigs out in the ocean. It's a sobering reminder that, while I relax on the beach, our American petroleum companies are working around the clock to provide me with relatively cheap energy. It is idiotic that we refuse to take advantage of our own plentiful resources while all other countries are taking advantage of theirs, and our economy spirals down the toilet, as does our way of life.

Government regulators......good grief!

There is absolutely no part of your life over which the nanny-State doesn't want control, including in the bathroom. Not content with ruining an otherwise satisfying constitutional with low-flush toilets, now they're after our shower curtains.....

OTTAWA -- A new study says some plastic shower curtains may be hazardous to your health.

The U.S.-based Centre for Health, Environment and Justice says polyvinyl chloride (PVC) shower curtains may release 108 toxic chemicals into the air.

The study found the ubiquitous PVC curtains contain harmful chemicals that can cause a litany of adverse health effects to the lungs, central nervous system, liver and kidneys.

Environmental Defence and the Canadian Environmental Law Association released the study in Canada and are calling on Ottawa to ban PVC curtains and force manufacturers and retailers to instead sell cotton ones.

Cotton shower curtains? Of all the stupid ideas that sweaty, hand-wringing bureaucrats have come up with.....cotton shower curtains. I'm no Marth Stewart but, aren't the cotton shower curtains designed to be used decoratively on the outside of the PVC curtain, not in place of it....maybe because cotton absorbs water?

I swear, these government regulators must feel like they have to constantly be banning something, mandating something, or regulating something in order to justify their jobs. But that can't be it. As employees in the vast government bureacracy, their taxpayer-funded jobs are secure regardless of how incompetently they perform them. And their degree of job satisfaction is directly proportional to the level of inconvenience they inflict upon the rest of us.

Every time regulators ban something, no matter how harmlessly we've been exposed to it over our lifetimes, lawyers will start bringing suits against manufacturers on behalf of pitiful "victims", claiming all manner of imagined damages. In this case, the cost of shower curtains will rise dramatically for the rest of us to pay for the bogus settlements.

Don't be a Druid

Over at the web's fever swamp of liberal hysteria, Americanprogressaction, they've predictably seized on the tragedy at the Boy Scout camp in Iowa as proof of man-made global warming. I won't bore you with the litany of "evidence" they present because it's just a recitation of recent weather phenomena, so here's the first line of the story. That should be enough....

Global Boiling
The evidence for the consequences of global warming is appearing with alarming frequency. This morning's headlines are filled with tales of deadly weather.

So basically, any weather event can be conveniently blamed on man-made global warming, despite the presence of evidence that the Earth is cooling, and has been for the last decade. I'm telling you, modern environmentalism is a religion (not a movement, a science, or a political position), it is a religion based on hyperbole, myth, and bogus statistics. It's high priest is Al Gore and the druidical cultists who blindly follow him are determined to force their insanity on the rest of us.

Democrats lure voters with promises of bags of cash

With the economy struggling from high gas prices, craven democrats can be counted on to seize the opportunity to seduce as many Americans as they can onto the welfare and unemployment handout roles.....

WASHINGTON - The House on Thursday approved an extra three months of jobless benefits for all unemployed Americans, knowing the plan's chances are slight in the Senate and almost nonexistent at the White House.

After failing to get a veto-proof two-thirds margin by three votes on Wednesday, Democrats got an exact two-thirds margin on Thursday with a 274-137 vote — the amount needed to overcome a threatened presidential veto.

Democrats said they pushed the legislation through to the Senate because Americans need help in a slumping economy.

"The American people are waiting to see if Congress is going to help them," said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.

No Nancy, only idle reprobates, or as we conservatives like to call them--core democrat voters, are waiting for Congress to help them. The rest of America gets out and finds work when things take a downturn. It doesn't matter that House democrats know the bill will fail, the target audience will get the message that in order to receive fabulous cash and prizes from democrats for not working, they have to vote democrat.

Here are a couple of democrat core voters....unemployed, shiftless, and waiting for Congress to help them.

9 out of 10 caribou support drilling in ANWR

If I end up not voting for J.Mac in November, and that remains a distinct possibility, it'll be for two reasons:1 his utter lack of desire to do anything productive in the immigration front, and 2 his abominable environmental positions. We've gone over his disastrous cap-and-trade scheme to placate the eco-zealots regarding imaginary global warming. But as gas prices rise faster than regular-reader Kevin's blood pressure during a 3rd-period linear algebra exam, McCain insists that we not use the trillions of barrels of petroleum we have available off our coasts, in the Dakota's, or in ANWR. Here's his groan-inducing quote about ANWR...

"As far as ANWR is concerned, I don’t want to drill in the Grand Canyon, and I don’t want to drill in the Everglades. This is one of the most pristine and beautiful parts of the world."

ANWR is roughly the size of Oregon and drilling will affect exactly 0.01% of that land, yet McCain stubbornly parrots the environmentalist lunatics' diatribe about "pristine wilderness". At some point, gas prices will become so painfully high that Americans will stop worrying about the God-forsaken Alaskan tundra or their view from the California sea-shore and demand that their government get for them some gasoline. Then what will McCain do as President? It may already be too late since any new discoveries will take 10 years to impact the market. All the while, China is drilling 90 miles off our shore and Russia is exploiting all their domestic fields to grow their economies as we refuse to compete, instead worrying about the speckled newt or the mating habits of caribou. All I know is this eco-friendly drivel coming from McCain almost makes him unpalatable as my candidate.

Here's the Alaskan arctic wasteland in which caribou happily have sex and reproduce in the shadow of oil operations.

It's Ann Coulter Thursday!

This week Ann makes the case for George Bush's presidency using a single argument....we've been terrorist-attack free ever since 9/11. She defends Bush's decision to invade Iraq and engage the AQ terrorists by arguing that it's better to fight them in Iraq than wait for them to come to Manhattan. I happen to agree with that sentiment, but I wouldn't go so far as to say Bush was a great President. Compassionate conservatism is code for big-government, big-spending centrism. And it's the reason the GOP is going to take it on the chin in November. You can go to Ann's site and see if you agree.

We all scream....

This is another example of the government(in this case, local government) overstepping it's boundries...

DEARBORN HEIGHTS, Mich., June 9 (UPI) -- City officials in Dearborn Heights, Mich., say they may ban ice cream truck drivers from playing music because residents think it's too loud.

The city council is preparing to pass an ordinance Tuesday, permitting drivers to sound bells only as they are making an ice cream sale, The Detroit News reported.

Drivers say the ordinance is unreasonable and poses a major threat to their sales.
"You're just going to be driving down the streets and the kids won't hear you coming." driver Dominic Amato, 19, said.

City leaders defend the proposed rule, saying it is intended to keep the peace in local neighborhoods.

Nobody finds ice-cream vendors more annoying or more creepy than me(only clowns, carnies, and midgets are creepier). That said, does hearing Scott Joplin's The Entertainer in peircing, electronic monotone a couple of times a week, as irritating as it is, really necessitate banning that practice altogether, if playing the music is an essential part of conducting business?

The question is, does the vendor's 1st amendment right to conduct business supercede the community's excessive noise ordinances? My answer is yes, and I can see this case working it's way up the appeals-courts.

Smoke 'em if you got 'em

I'm glad to see the MSM is right on top of this very important breaking news story.....

ABC News' Sunlen Miller Reports: Senator Barack Obama told reporters in St. Louis today that he has fallen off the wagon and smoked cigarettes in the last few months.

The presumptive Democratic nominee has been open about his smoking past: Once a heavy smoker, he publicly gave up the habit, per his wife’s request, to run for president.

Since quitting, Obama has indicated in the past that he has “fallen off the wagon” but before today was not specific about how recent his smoking was.

“Months,” Obama said of the last time he has smoked.

If there's anything liberals hate more than Bush, SUV's, or poor people getting off welfare, it's cigarettes.

Don't get me wrong, they love that they can demonize the tobacco companies in court and plunder them for billions, but lepers got treated better in biblical times than smokers get treated today.

Who cares of Obama likes to burn one every now and then? That's between his irritating, shrew of a wife and him.

Let me be clear, I hate smelling cigarette smoke and I resent smokers who loiter around entrances to public buildings creating a gauntlet of haze through which I have to hold my breath as I walk, I just find it amusing that the Obamessiah has this character flaw that liberals will have to find a way to rationalize. That this is a news-worthy story in the middle of election season demonstrates how important this issue is to dumb liberals. Let's hope it proves to be a huge distraction.

TRR classroom

Thoughtful reader David wrote in with this interesting tidbit of trivia. I have to confess, I've never heard this before.....

Manure: In the 16th and 17th centuries, everything had to be transported by ship and it was also before commercial fertilizer's invention, so large shipments of manure were common.

It was shipped dry, because in dry form it weighed a lot less than when wet, but once water (at sea) hit it, it not only became heavier, but the process of fermentation began again, of which a by product is methane gas. As the stuff was stored below decks in bundles you can see what could (and did) happen.

Methane began to build up below decks and the first time someone came below at night with a lantern, BOOOOM!

Several ships were destroyed in this manner before it was determined just what was happening.

After that, the bundles of manure were always stamped with the term 'Ship High In Transit' on them, which meant for the sailors to stow it high enough off of the lower decks so that any water that came into the hold would not
touch this volatile cargo and start the production of methane.

Thus evolved the term ' S.H.I.T ', (Ship High In Transport) which has come down through the centuries and is in use to this very day.

You probably did not know the true history of this word.

Neither did I.

I had always thought it was a golfing term.

"Golfing term".....that David, he's a regular comedian.

Disclaimer: I apologize for any hurt feelings, offended sensibilities, or blah, blah, blah......it's history, deal with it.

I want my BLT

We are such a litigation-averse society now that all it takes to destroy a $1.28billion industry is a little isolated Salmonella scare. 145 people nation-wide have gotten sick, no deaths, from eating contaminated tomatoes. Read about the hysteria.....

MIAMI (Reuters) - Florida's tomato industry is in "complete collapse" and growers in California and Mexico are having trouble selling their crops as U.S. regulators hunt the source of a salmonella outbreak linked to certain tomato varieties, growers said on Tuesday.

In Florida, the No. 1 U.S. tomato producer, $40 million worth of tomatoes will rot unless the U.S. Food and Drug Administration quickly traces the source of the outbreak and clears the state's produce, an industry official said.

U.S. growers produced $1.28 billion worth of tomatoes last year, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The entire nation is without access to tomatoes and the North American tomato industry is in shambles because a handful of people got sick. Am I the only one who finds this preposterous? We have devolved into a nation of sniveling, pathetic, risk-averse whiners who're terrified of our own shadows. We cower in the face of challenge and speed-dial a lawyer if the slightest wrong befalls us. Our dumbed-down children have sanitized hands and helmeted heads, but they can't play on monkey bars, slides, or see-saws for fear of injury followed by law suits. What right do we have to expect a no-fault life? Can you imagine the chuckle the pilgrims would have if they knew what a nation of weak, phobia-ridden, pansies their descendants have become?

Pat, over at BelchSpeak.com, a blog kind of like this one, blames organically farmed produce, just like the spinach scare of 2006. Wouldn't it be funny, and by funny I mean ironic, if smelly hippies who reject modern farming technology and insist on organic farming as being more healthy, are to blame for this too?

A new backyard game

First of all, if you fail to find the funny in this post, and get offended instead, then you are a miserable, socially retarded troll who needs to get off the computer, leave your bedroom in your parents' house, and develop a sense of humor.

That said, I stumbled across this page and assumed it was a big joke. But apparently it's an actual yard game, rather than what you might suspect, which is a game for inbred, West Virginia hillbillies...or the Spears family. If you don't get it, well, I can't tell you what to do. Try moving along to the next post.

Every time I look at this T-shirt, I grin. I might even consider wearing one if it weren't so vulgar.

Counting on your stupidity

This is the image of oil companies that liberals want Americans to have. They want you to resent the evil capitalists' profits these companies earn, as the rest of us suffer, paying $4 at the pump. That's why they use terms like "windfall profits". Because they suggest that the oil company did nothing to earn this money and therefor it's only right that we take some of it away from them to help more deserving Americans pay for gasoline and heating oil.

The Obamessiah promised as President, a windfall profits tax on any oil company profits above what he deems to be reasonable. What he won't mention is that 98.5% of the stock in the biggest 5 oil companies is owned by middle-class stockholders in their 401K's, retirement funds, and money market retirement accounts. These profits are what they're counting on to retire. It's their money. They risked their capital and they deserve to benefit from their investment. Moreover, oil companies only make 9-10 cents on every dollar of investment, while the government already makes three times that by taxing the oil companies. If you are looking for somebody to be angry at for the high gas prices, look at your government first.

And if you don't do anything else useful for God and country today, please look up the difference between "profit" and "profit margin". The measure of true corporate income is "profit margin" not "profit". There's a huge difference. By comparison, the credit card company to whom you pay the minimum every month has a profit margin of close to 40%. They clear 4 times more on every dollar of revenue than the oil companies. Where's the cry for a windfall profits tax on credit card companies? If you want to stupidly whine about obscene profits, whine about that.

See, this is why the government has a vested interest in you remaining dumb and gullible. It's so they can easily convince you, through wealth envy and class warfare, that you deserve somebody elses money...money that you didn't earn. And far too many Americans jump at the chance to grab somebody elses earnings because hey, it's easier than working for it.

Pop Quiz Hot Shots: Can anybody tell my why a windfall profits tax on oil companies, while making dumb liberals gleeful that we're sticking it to the evil oil companies, will likely cause gas shortages and even higher prices for gasoline?

GOP.......big-time spenders

Want to know why the GOP might lose the Presidency this year, as well as suffer huge defeats in both houses of Congress? Look no further than the dreadful, pork-laden transportation bill Bush gladly signed into law a week ago. Here are some highlights, or should I say lowlights?

-$98,000 by House appropriator Virgil Goode (R-Va.) to develop a walking tour of Boydton. The town has a population of 474, and covers .82 square miles.
-$98,000 by Rep. John McHugh (R-N.Y.) for renovations to the Wakely Lodge Resort, the site of a nine-hole public golf course in Indian Lake.
-$245,000 by Senate appropriator Patty Murray (D-Wash.), Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.), and Rep. Doc Hastings (R-Wash.) for construction of a Wine and Culinary Center, the purpose of which is to educate and promote the areas of viticulture, enology and culinary practices, and showcase the quality of Washington’s wine industry.
-$14,878,000 added by the House for the International Fund for Ireland (IFI). IFI, established in 1986, is an organization whose objectives are to promote economic and social advance and to encourage contact, dialogue and reconciliation between nationalists and unionists throughout Ireland, despite the fact that peace has broken out in Ireland and the Irish economy is the strongest in Europe.

These are just snipets of the 11,610 pork projects that cost $17.2 billion of American taxpayers' money. If people want a walking tour of their town, they can pay for it. If Washington wants to showcase it's wine industry, let the taxpayers of Washington pay for it. If golfers want a nicer clubhouse, raise membership dues. And why do we give a crap if the Irish people like each other? These are nothing but incumbent re-election bribes and corrupt politicians snicker as they shove their hands in our wallets to pay for it. The GOP deserves to lose, big time! As much as I loathe the Obamessiah, it might be what is needed to wake up the big-spending republicans in DC.....but I doubt it.

Stating the obvious

There's a breaking story over at the New York Times. It seems they've had an epiphany about the impact of high gasoline prices....

Gas prices are high throughout the country, but how hard they hit individual families depends on income levels, which vary widely. The counties where motorists spend the highest percentage of their income on gasoline tend to be in poor, rural areas.

That's like discovering that the consumers who get hit hardest by rising tampon prices tend to be female.

The MSM love a good tug-at-your-heartstrings story about how unfair it is that poor people are......well, poor. That poor people struggle with money seems to always come as a news-worthy surprise to them. And presenting it in the news as unfair, advances the liberal agenda of getting the rest of us to accept the insidious concept of income redistribution.

The next time you watch the news, whether local or national, pay attention to how many of the stories are not really news....they're just restating the obvious, in a way designed to elicit a certain response, and presenting it to you as news.
