Election ?

In Just one year - - - This email comes in three parts: Part 1 In just one year. Remember the electionin 2006? Thought you might like to read the following: A little over one year ago: 1) Consumer confidence stood at a 2 1/2year high; 2) Regular gasoline sold for $2.19 agallon; 3) The unemployment rate was 4.5%. Since voting in a Democratic Congress in2006 we have seen: 1) Consumer confidence plummet; 2) The cost of regular gasoline soar to over $3.50 a gallon; 3) Unemployment is up to 5% (a 10%increase); 4) American households have seen $2.3trillion in equity value evaporate (stock and mutual fund losses); 5) Americans have seen their home equity drop by $1.2 trillion dollars; 6) 1% of American homes are in foreclosure. America voted for change in 2006, and we got it! Remember, it's Congress that makes law not the President. He has to work with what's handed tohim. Quote of the Day........"My friends, we live in the greatest nation in the history of the world. I hope you'll join with me as we try to change it." --BarackObama Part 2: Taxes...Whether Democrat or a Republicanyou will find these statistics enlightening and amazing. www.taxfoundation.org/publications/show/151.html<http://www.taxfoundation.org/publications/show/151.html><http://www.taxfoundation.org/publications/show/151.html> Taxes under ClintonTaxes under Bush 2008 Single making 30K - tax $8,400Single making 30K - tax $4,500 Single making 50K - tax $14,000Single making 50K - tax $12,500 Single making 75K - tax $23,250Single making 75K - tax $18,750 Married making 60K - tax $16,800Married making 60K- tax $9,000 Married making 75K - tax $21,000Married making 75K - tax $18,750 Married making 125K - tax $38,750Married making 125K - tax $31,250 Both democratic candidates will returnto the higher tax rates It is amazing how many people that fallinto the categories above think Bush is screwing them and BillClinto n was the greatest President ever. If Obama or Hillary areelected, they both say they will repeal the Bush tax cuts and a goodportion of the people that fall into the categories above can'twait for it to happen. This is like the movie, The Sting with PaulNewman; you scam somebody out of some money and they don't even know whathappened. PART 3: You think the war in Iraq is costing us too much? Read this: Boy, am I confused. I have been hammered with the propaganda that it is the Iraq war and the war on terror that is bankrupting us. I now find that to be RIDICULOUS. reid, Bush has spent over $500billion on the stupid war-$200million every day. do not try to claim that it is inconsequential compared to the cost of illegal immigration. we can do something about immigration by electing representatives who promise to, but we have no choice but to go along with a costly war in terms of blood and treasure, prosecuted unilaterally by Bush. we have no recourse and are called unpatriotic if we object. if you do not think the industrial-military complex has everything to do with this war then you are hopelessly naive. i cannot believe you try to compare equally, immigration to this disastrous war. damn neo-con.

Bert: I again have just copied an email. I read the large part of this and again just put it out for a discussion. I agree with aprts and obviously don't with all. Please explain to me why you are "damning me"?

I don't think the article compares directly The war vs. illegal immigration. I think it points out that the media continues to harp on the enormous amounts of money being spent there and ignoring the enormous amount of money spent elsewhere as well (illegal Immigration as 1 example). It bothers me that as a country we do very little about 1 million sex crimes committed by aliens. Either deport/exhile them or eliminate them. If they cannot behave send them home.

that sentence is the basis for the entire e-mail. of course it's comparing the expense of war with the expense of illegal immigrants and you would not have posted it if you did not agree with its premise. i agree that our government is derelict for not dealing effectively with illegals and that it costs us huge sums of money and lives but, losing over 4000 lives and untold sums of money in a country that did not attack us is more derelict in my opinion. maybe to avoid confusion in the future reid, you should include your agreements and disagreements with your posts. i called you a neo-con because you seem to be supporting the war by minimizing its impact compared to illegal immigration. there would be plenty of money to finish the border fence and start massive deportations if it were not mired in this endless war.

I have read this post. I will comment in 3 parts, since that is how it was presented.

Part1: Assuming that the figures quoted are accurate and not reverse propaganda (?) then it is fair to assume that electing a Democratic candidate for president this fall will spell doom for the socio & economic needs of the country.
Part 2: Taxes are better. We can all feel that, and I am sure that no one wishes to reverse this trend. With the squeeze of our spending as oil prices rise, food prices increase, and as the housing market crumbles forcing lenders to tighten their belts and therby raise mortgage rates and fees, we are all seeing our paychecks have less available for discretionary spending. I can only imagine how a family will react when it loses an additional 10-20% in income if taxes are repealed. Frightening to say the least!
Part 3: I see little to argue about here. This war is amazingly expensive. As we look at the area now, one might be able to state flatly that this shouldn't have been pursued. However, at the time, with the available intelligence, it was the only conceivable option to sqelch the world wide threat of terrorism and the enormous expense of fighting an invisible opponenent. Does it still exist - yes - but it seems to be more under control by the various governments. I have reviewed each of these websites listed. While each state the numbers shown, one must accept their validity without proof. Everyone has an axe to grind. It appears that Reid, as the post writer, tried to incite a discussion for his entertainmaent value. It seems that he suceeded. 2 bloggers have banted back and forth about a part of the "rant" and it seems both missed seeing the entire picture due to personal bias, slant, style, or lack of intuit. This article has zero to do with the war. It has zero to do with illegal immigration. It has zero to do with taxes. All of those issues are a part of the election we are about to participate in. One must view each of these issues and others in order to disect which candidate is closest to their politial ideologies. Then one must vote accordingly.

Bert and Joe Camel you took a portion of an article and argued a point because it was in your crosshairs, and both of you missed the authors point. This article has floated around the internet now for about 6 months. I have seen it 3-4 times, myself. I enjoy visiting this blog. I enjoy the discussion. I enjoy Ed's and Reid's takes. I occasionally even agree with them. Lets just set this on the shelf and move on to discussing the real issues of life: Global warming/AlGore/Stupid people being ridiculed/whats in eds cd player/Britney/etc.
