“The American people will never knowingly adopt Socialism. But under the name of ‘liberalism’ they will adopt every fragment of the Socialist program, until one day America will be a Socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.”

Jesus is Irish?

I'm not sure what to make of this...

Renee Brewster says she had been looking for an excuse to get out of making potato salad. “I was hesitant about making the potato salad because Sister Frankie makes the potato salad at church and I said lord if it’s not for me to make potato salad then send me a sign.”

OK, even I will admit that the random blight pattern in this potato looks eerily like Christ on the cross. But the God reveals himself in mysterious ways thing aside, what explains his revelation in a potato to somebody who can't decide if she wants to make potato salad or not? I mean should this be taken seriously? I mean besides the fact that some person somewhere will pay like $5000 on e-bay for it, shelaq it and put it on display in a living-room shrine with candles and rosaries everywhere...right next to the grilled cheese sandwich with Mary and the potato chip with the shroud of Turin on it?

Isn't it more likely that it's juts a random, coincidental pattern in nature which explains the rabbit in the clouds, the man in the moon, and John Edwards' poll numbers?

Finally, to take this discussion to it's inevitable conclusion: doesn't taking seriously this kind of thing make the actual seriousness of religion and faith seem kind of silly by association? How is Christ in an Idaho potato going to deepen or awaken the faith of a lost person? I would think it would be more likely to cause them to dismiss faith as foolishness.

Sometimes the Lord works in mysterious ways. Sometimes he works in ways that only those designated seem to understand. While this potato thing can be seen as trite, it might have a much deeper meaning than we will see. Think about this:

A man sits in a window seat at a restaurant sipping a drink and staring out onto the street. He witnesses a random act of kindness as a man stoops to retrieve a dropped cell phone of a female walking nearby. No big deal - right. But to know that this man was so moved by the act of this extremely old (almost crippled) man coming to the aide of a complete stranger, gave the viewer the strength to quit his job and to start working in the inner city of NYC, preaching and teaching the good news. Who Knows - sometimes only God and you!!
