“The American people will never knowingly adopt Socialism. But under the name of ‘liberalism’ they will adopt every fragment of the Socialist program, until one day America will be a Socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.”

Dumbed down teachers

If this story doesn't tell you what's wrong with government education, I don't know what will...

BOSTON --More than half of black and Hispanic applicants for teaching jobs in Massachusetts have failed a crucial state licensing test.

Since the start of the test nearly a decade ago, 52 percent of Hispanics and 54 percent of blacks failed the writing portion of the test compared to a 23 percent failure rate among white applicants.
Blacks and Hispanics also fall behind white applicants in other test subjects like English, history and math.

Those are basic subjects, not "white subjects", as those failing teachers would have us believe. This shows you how miserably incompetent many teachers are and how the teachers' unions keep them in classrooms "teaching" our kids.

But here's the real issue...

Education officials say the gap is making it harder to bring more diversity to the state's teaching ranks.
Chris Anderson, chairman of the state Board of Education, said he's willing to consider other ways of assessing teachers, as long as standards remain high.
"There's no reason to have any barriers to quality teachers if we don't need them," Anderson told The Boston Sunday Globe.
Sally Diaz, a vice president at Emmanuel College in Boston and a member of the panel, said one test shouldn't make or break a career.
"One of the fallouts which is particularly upsetting in our experience across the colleges is fewer and fewer students of color are even going into teaching because word has gotten out that these tests are very difficult for them," she said.

See? Political correctness trumps everything when it comes to preserving jobs for incompetent teachers, even your childrens' education. The state is thinking of lowering the standards for the test so the dumb teachers can pass it. Preposterously, that's liberals' solution to every problem when the outcome doesn't fit their world-view of diversity and minority representation....don't force the teacher applicants to be competent, simply lower the testing standards so everybody can be a teacher regardless of how lazy, shiftless, or incompetent.

Some deans of education schools are raising questions about whether the lower results among minority applicants shows the tests are culturally biased and whether the quality of education that minority applicants receive is good enough.
Some minority applicants say the tests includes questions that white applicants and those with liberal arts backgrounds can more readily identify with, such as questions about ancient literature or investing in the stock market.
A Cambridge lawyer said he's planning to file a class action lawsuit against the state Department of Education and the testing company on behalf of three minority teachers who failed the test multiple times.

And of course, rather than go get a decent education, it's so much easier to sue somebody because you are too stupid to pass a competency test. After all, you're a minority, the world owes you. Failure can never be your own fault. It's always white society's fault.

Just to be clear, this is not an indictment of minorities...just of the mentality of victimhood that many minorities rely on when things don't turn out as they would like. It's also an indictment of the reflexive tendancy of liberals to dumb down any system that doesn't produce the idiotic diversity goals that aleviate their white guilt and make them feel good about themselves. Instead of demanding that all teachers perform at a high academic level, just make the test so easy that any moron can be a teacher.

Liberals....I swear!

I like the liberal solution, lower the quality so that there are more teachers. How does that saying go? "Quantity beats quality"
You know, its stupid the way the liberals think. Who do they think they are helping? This only means we will have more dumb people in society, because the dumb people are teaching now, and so those dumb people will try to get jobs, and then start suing people because they are victims of some unjust crime, i.e. being a moron, and then the liberals will have to find ways for them to get high quality jobs. This is only going to become a downward spiral until the world is a bunch of stupid apes, and a few smart people found a way to travel through space, but actually traveled through time, because they aren't that smart, just smart for their time, and.... hey wasnt this a movie? Just watch that, that will explain what im trying to say.

Didn't this happen at Hoover High School this year with 2 football players? Maybe dumb jocks and dumb teachers are good together.

Not exactly Joe. At Hoover, a couple of teachers and maybe the principle were accused of padding grades so that senior football players could retain their college scholarships.

The academic expertise of teachers at Hoover High has never been questioned....just their morality.

Ed: I think as this plays out that you will find that "jock" teachers are recruited at HHS b/c of the same syndrome you are describing. Mr.s Bishop/Craig/Propst will all get what they deserve. Rumor has it now that Propst is gone by January, Bishop is to get a sizable check to keep his lips zipped, and that Andy Craig will be lucky to retain his current job. Throw on top of that the potential crookedness of the new principal and his apparent easy treatment of athletes in his tenure in Maryville, and you have the makings of a fine learning environment for students looking to garner wisdom in many varied areas of illegalities and immoralities. Remember that the fish rots from the head down. These clowns all deserve each other. It's the students, that are not over-acheiving, that are suffering. I have people on the inside and they paint a very ugly picture. Mr. Bishop stated that HHS had an enormous amount of success in the scholastic arena last year. That is true comparing results to the dismal results of previous years, but the school still cannot get out of the gutter as it pertains to grade tampering, etc. The rumor mill is full of stories about former HHS grads ( ex. Chad Jackson) whose grades were changed to help an athletic situation. This is not a new problem, but an never-ending one.

You can look at this through rose colored galsses if you choose, or you can position yourself to watch the dismembering of what should have been a fine school system. Regardless, they still dumb down.

Joe, you may be right about the athletic department, but the advanced classes, for those students who choose to learn and better themselves, are very credible. The AP classes were an exceptional way for many students who were better than average, such as myself, but not elite intellects, to learn more advanced subjects, and the IB program for those truly gifted was also exceptional. And the special education was also phenomenal, and if im not mistaken one of the top in the country. But you are right about the athletic department and its corruptness.

Joe, Kevin(Hoover graduate) is right. The academic environment at HHS is second to none(It's one of only two International Baccalaureate schools in the B'ham area). That being said, 6A athletic programs are notoriously suspect here in the South especially. HS football is #1. Sadly, it comes before academics for the families whose kids are stars.

You are correct however, Joe in tagging most big-time HS athletic departments as corrupt. It would be naive to think otherwise.

But we cannot take credit where credit is due as far as female athletics go. No one really cares if their stars have good grades or not.

It's difficult to compare the lesser sports with the money-maker---football. All HS athletes must make some sort of minimum grade to participate. Nobody really pays attention to the ping-pong team or the synchronized swim team because, A:the Asians make the best grades in the school anyway, and B: the only people watching the swim meets are the parents, and they are there begrudgingly.

My point: if the school doesn't make money from the sport, then there's no incentive/pressure for a teacher to risk his/her career fudging grades. And colleges generally don't give out scholarships for small-time sports.
